Customer Test Trivia Smarts In The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Game At
McDonald's
Potential Cash Prizes on Every Game Card
OAK BROOK, Ill. (April 10, 2001) Beginning April 19 - May 17, 2001, at
participating restaurants, customers will have the chance to test their
knowledge as they play the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Game at McDonald’s
nationwide while supplies last. For the first time in McDonald’s history, this
promotion offers the opportunity to win cash instantly on every Official Game
Card.
Partnering with ABC, www.abc.com and its hit TV show "Who Wants to Be a
Millionaire," McDonald’s game includes cash prizes that mirror the TV
show’s prize structure, including million dollar top prizes. Other prizes
include $500,000, $250,000, $125,000, and all the way down to a multitude of $1
to $5 prizes. In addition, prizes include Baked Apple Pies, Small Cones, Small
Drinks, Small Fries, Cheeseburgers, Hash Browns, Breakfast Sandwiches and Small
Coffees.
Game Card questions for the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Game at
McDonald’s are official Millionaire questions. And just like the show,
customers can reach out for help with a Lifeline. For the McDonald’s game,
customers can go to www.abc.com for a 50/50 Lifeline. The web site will
eliminate two incorrect answers, leaving the customer with one correct answer
and one wrong answer.
The Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Game at McDonald's Official Game Cards will
be included on each order of Medium, Large and Super Size Fries (depending on
market). Playing the game is simple. Customers first rub off the question, then
rub off the square below one of four provided answers. If the correct answer is
selected, customers rub off one square in the prize section to find what they
have won.
"McDonald’s has never before featured a promotion offering customers
such unbeatable odds," said R.J. Milano, vice president, McDonald’s U.S.
Marketing. "When customers answer questions correctly, they are guaranteed
to instantly win a prize. We are even providing a 50/50 Lifelines to help them
uncover the correct answers."
The Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Game at McDonald’s is supported by
television spots, featuring Regis Philbin, developed by DDB, Chicago. Leo
Burnett, Chicago also created TV, print and Internet support. African-American
consumer ads were created by Burrell Communications Group and include TV, print
and radio spots. Hispanic consumer ads were created by del Rivero Messianu and
include TV, radio and Internet.
McDonald’s is the world’s leading foodservice retailer, with more than
28,000 restaurants serving nearly 45 million people each day in 120 countries.
Approximately 80 percent of all McDonald’s restaurants worldwide are owned and
operated by independent franchisees.
Hmmm, sound interesting and fun?? While it appears the Monopoly game *may* not happen, I think we can still help each other. Between each other and the lifelines, we can make sure that we always get the winner.
Oh, to you diehard Monopoly fans, don't worry. There still may be a game this year, or maybe next year, depending on how popular this version is. :-)
